"Clattering" noise from underneath 2004 Z71
We thought we had the noise traced to the driveshaft.(double walled) After 3 attempts to get the correct driveshaft and u joint, the noise quit for maybe 2 days. Today, I backed out of the drive, and not even a minute later...that noise came back...not as bad or as often..but it's back!! Could it be a bad driveshaft or something else? Truck drives great, no other issues! Thanks for any and all advice!!

Well, I found a video of a pickup similar to mine, with the same noise. I haven't had my son get into it yet...but it is most likely the E Brake pad has rusted away! If this is the case, I am out 700.00 for an easy fix!! On the upside, I now have a spare driveshaft! Lol!

I hear lots of pickups are going back to rear drum brakes. Jezze, I hate all those springs on a drum brake system.
My father's old Chevy C-60 2.5 ton had the parking brake on the driveshaft.

***Update!*** The clattering was the E-brake pad on the driver side! My son finally looked at it about a month ago. He was able to just pull the pad off! Pickup hasn't been this quiet in a long time!
