Clunking in engine compartment

Clunking in engine compartment
Driving down the road today and a rhythmic clunking started, what sounds like under the engine. I could feel it through the gas pedal. The rhythm matched the speed I was driving. It would stop for 1/2 a second then start clunking again. No clunking while stopped at a stoplight. Green light, started driving and so did the clunking. Then it just stopped. Happened for about 1 mile. Clunking was very loud. Any thoughts. No clunking while going over bumps or turning.
