Default Gauge Cluster swap

I have an 01 Silverado 1500. Could i install a gauge cluster from a 2500 so that i could get a transmission temp gauge. I can pick one up pretty cheap from the local junk yard, but wondering what kind of night mare i would run into installing it and getting it to work right. Anyone done this? Any thoughts? Thanks.

not sure if it would work. there is a trans fluid temp sensor in the 4l60e trans. have a look at the connector on the cluster; if its the same give it a shot .

all the cluster information is sent thru a data line...just plug it in and it may work. your odometer will be wrong but wgaf.
