Default Need to reprogram speedometer for different tire size

Just purchased a 2000 Silverado and I was able to pickup some wheels with tires with good tread for a good price.

The tires are not the same size as the original.

WHAT IS THE CHOICE for reprogramming the new tire size into the Silverado?

WIll the programmer ALSO change the shifts points for the transmission??????????

I saw Rough Country advertised.

Is there better or cheaper?

Hope to get soem good replies on this. Thank you.

You don't have to buy a programmer . have someone with a scan tool that can access the ebcm change the tire size parameter in the ebcm to match what you have. there are numerous tire size options in the system. As long as you don't go to big...ie so big you need a lift...the factory options will cover it. if you do go very big tire...you will need a programmer.

vehicle speed and engine load are the 2 big inputs for shift points/timing. Changing the time size will change vehicle speed so to keep the correct shift timing.....you need to correct for the tire size change. this is done in the ebcm. if you go to a larger tire and do not change the tire size setting the shift points will be late/delayed

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually going smaller on my ride. With 2 wheel drive and a 4.3 it is just basically a grocery getter, no off roading. I realize tire size changes the drive ratio of the rear gears and all and I used to fix that by buying different transmission speedometer gears but that was OLD SKOOL........time to step up.......

Thanks again.....

I was able to secure 2 tires in the stock size for a good price to place on the rear so I went that route........I couldn't find any one to reprogram the tire size. Dealer would not do it.

End of story.
