I just bought a new tailgate for my 2005 Silverado 2500 HD. I painted it, put roll on bedliner on it, installed the new hardware, an put it in the truck. That's when I discovered it is about 1/4 inch too wide, and won't close (it hits the left side, and the right latch bolt.).
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do? I thought about trying to use a bottle jack, and see if I could spread the sides about 1/2 inch, but thought maybe there was a less radical solution.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 

take a measurement of the top of the tailgate opening and one at the bottom, see if its off. then measure diagonal from corner to corner (top left to bottom right, then top right to bottom left) see if its still square
