Default New tow vehicle?

Hello, totally new to this forum and looking for advice. Currently own a 2004 2500 silverado crew cab 6.0L and towing a 8500lb. Travel trailer(fully loaded) and looking to purchase a new/used vehicle. Went to my local dealer expecting to look at 2500's because of the weight of my camper but salesman is telling me that a 1500 (late model 2013-2016) will tow my camper without issue. I tow maybe 5-7 times a year and usually less than 150 miles one way. Any advice...1500 or 2500?? Thank you.

stupid salesmen.

it may legally be capable of towing that much but you will be very disappointed dropping down from your current truck to a 1500. I towed a 6000lb trailer across the country once with a 2500 hd like yours and then a 1500 dodge hemi. I would choose the 2500 suspension package any day and I was towing a lot less than you. That 1500 dodge can tow better than any new gm 1500 but its no match for a 2500.

only way to really know is to do a test tow with a 1500...with they give you a loaner for a day? Better yet, ask to borrow the salesman's truck!

The old saying "Better safe than sorry" may be all you need to remember as you make your choice.

For sure, the 2500 will handle the load, and more to come in the future.
