Oil pressure sending switch failure

Oil pressure sending switch failure
2004 Chevy Silverado 5.3 Vortec
We are on the "umpteenth" oil pressure sending switch. They have all been aluminum base, last few have been torqued to 15 ft-lbs. It seems like every several weeks it fails/blows, spitting oil all over the engine and the engine compartment and we have to replace it. We are putting in a brass base unit this time. Any suggestions on why it continues to fail? Other things to check that could be contributing to the failure?
