Default Power Mirror question - 2006 LT3 Silverado 1500

My 2006 Silverado was stolen recently (in broad daylight at a Costco parking lot!).

I have a question about outside power mirrors.

On my LT3 Silverado, I could automatically fold the outside power mirrors from my power mirror controls. Can't remember exactly how I did it, but I did it regularly when my Silverado was parked on the street.

I have acquired a pristine low mileage 2002 GMC SLT Sierra 1500 to replace my stolen Silverado.

However, I can not seem to control folding the outside rear view mirrors from the interior controls on the GMC.

Does anyone know if the power mirror folding option changed between 2002 and 2006?

When I look in the Sierra owner's manual, there is no mention of being able to fold the outside mirrors from the power mirror controls.

thanks, any info would be appreciated.

You need to check the RPO codes for the 2002 Sierra to see if the foldable remote mirrors were installed as an option. Remote foldable mirrors are an option.

I think the mystery is solved. I had previously tried, without success, to find a folding mirror RPO code.

But, after doing some more research using the VIN numbers for both trucks, I found all the RPO codes for my 2002 GMC and for my 2006 Silverado and my Silverado had RPO code DL3 which includes power folding mirrors.

These are the mirror RPO codes on my 2002 GMC truck:
D48 MIRROR O/S LH & RH, REMOTE CONTROL, ELECTRIC, COLOR

DF5 MIRROR,OUTSIDE,REARVIEW,ELECTRIC REMOTE,THERMOMETER ILLUMINATED

These are the mirror RPO codes for my 2006 Silverado:
DF5 MIRROR,OUTSIDE,REARVIEW,ELECTRIC REMOTE,THERMOMETER ILLUMINATED DK7 DECAL,WINDOW(DELETE)

DL3 MIRROR O/S LH & RH, REM CONT, T/SIG, ELEC, HTD, POWER FOLDING

This is a really good site for finding all the RPO codes for a specific VIN#:

Default RPO codes are only 50% of the possible problem.

so... I know this is only part of the possibility for the 2003+ Tahoe and trucks but hear me out. All the truck and Tahoe models seem to have the ability to install power, heater, power folding, etc mirrors on them. The key to installing these mirrors on a model that didn't come with them is to simply install them and then you have to change out the driver door window and mirror controler for the one with the mirror switch with the lighted folding icon on it.

Again I know this works on the 2003+ trucks. Dunno why I couldn't work for the 99-2002 models.

Thanks. I have decided to just live without power folding mirrors. I am slowly getting used to just manually folding the driver side mirror when necessary.

But you seem very knowledgeable about these vehicles. I would like to lower the rear of my truck by about 2 inches. Have you heard of Belltech shackles and do you recommend them?

Thanks

Yes heard of them and use them. Bell tech is in my opinion the best of the best when it comes to lowering parts. Been using Bell tech for 30+ years. Would definitely recommend!
