rocker panel question
I am in the process of installing slip on type rocker panels and cab corners on my 2000 Silverado 1500. I have them welded in on the top side OK. I have a question about the bottom though. I also installed inner rockers too, so I'd have something to anchor the bottom of the outers to. The inners had holes that appeared to be for bolts, so I drilled the bottom of the outers and connected them with 5/16 bolts. The outers are sort of bowed out between the bolts. My question is: should I weld the inners to the outers at one or more spots between the bolts. If so, how close together should the welds be. Thanks, Ive never done this before, so any info & tips appreciated.
Use intermittent welds, no more than 3/4” long each (1/2” if the lowest settings are still burning through too easily) and no closer than 1” apart. Moisture WILL find its way inside those rockers so you want to make sure it can also find its way out.
If you want to weld it solid, you’ll have to drill a hole for drainage.
