What coolant type is in my 00 5.3?
Hey guys Im new here and this is my first Chevy so sorry for the noob questions. Just got a 2000 4x4 shortbox single cab Silverado with the 5.3 and 117k miles.
It was sitting for about 4 years with a bad water pump so I changed it but Im not sure what type of coolant to fill it back up with. Everything I can find online says it should have Orange Dex-Cool but the stuff I drained out looks pink to me.
Ive seen some people say the orange fades to a pinkish color after so many years and being mixed with water but idk how true that is. My buddy has a 2001 Silverado with the 4.8 that he knows is still using the original coolant and it looks pink too. Id hate to fill it with the wrong stuff since I know the heater core and block still has some old coolant in it and I dont want to mix coolants. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Welcome from Florida. The truck originally had the Dex-Cool and the pink coolant is Dex-Cool. They do make coolants that are compatible with all types of coolant so you can get one of those. You should flush the system and replace all of the coolant since what is in there is at least 4 years old.
