I’m fixing up a 07 Silverado 2500hd and it has around 150,000 miles on it. I was wondering what general maintenance is suggested to increase the trucks lifespan?

 

trans fluid and filter every 50K
front, rear diff, tcase fluids every 50K
spark plugs every 100K
coolant every 100k or 5 years
oil change every 4k
grease all the suspension and steering zerk fittings every oil change

Don’t overlook the air filter either. How often it actually needs to be changed will depend on where you live and how much you drive, but it should be checked every other oil change.

It’s condition can be assessed by checking how much light passes through it. At work I use the light in our supply closet because it’s isolated from the rest of the shop so I can get an accurate view; but a bright flashlight will also work. DO NOT rely on the filter indicator (if equipped) - the springs in them can rust and seize in place or drag heavily.

Replacement is recommended when there’s +/- 50% or less light visible through the filter.
