2010 Silverado 5.3 salling no codes
I have a 2010 Silverado 5.3 that just started stalling along with a ruff idle, but has no check engine codes. A friend suggested disconnecting the positive batt cable for at least 30 min. When i Hooked it back up it was fine for about 3 days even towing my boat. Making me think that there was no mechanical problems. The problem came back so the next time I left the battery cable off over night & it was ok & I drove again ok for two days. This must a electrical problem that needs to be fixed. I would be grateful for any suggestions in making a permanent FIX.
Not necessarily. Resetting the computer just makes it ignore the sensors and run on default values for a little while.
Start with basic engine stuff. Air filter, fuel filter, inspect spark plugs & tailpipe. clean the intake. Check for vacuum leaks. Run some injector cleaner. Watch the basic engine live data with a diagnostic tool and look for anomalies. Is this a flex fuel engine?

I thought I just explained why.
The mechanics of the engine are controlled by a computer.
Don't go to a dealer unless you want to be ripped off. They'll just make a laundry list of things to replace without diagnosing anything.
See an independent mechanic who has a good reputation in your city.

I have a 2010 Silverado 5.3l and just had the same problem. Engine would start fine, run rough for a few seconds then stall out. Found the clamp was loose for the air intake tube by the air cleaner. The tube came loose meaning the air coming in was not going past the MAF sensor. Put the tube on tightened the clamp. Running like a champ. Cleaned the sensor with Mass air flow cleaner while I was in there. Hope this helps.
