Default Cruise Control/break light issue

I have a 2007 Z71 1500 Silverado. About 2 years ago my cruise control stop working I didn't think much about it I was only driving locally. I have replaced the break light switch on the truck twice now and still don't have cruise control and my break lights stay on. Where is a good starting place to try and determine the cause of the problem. .

Do the brake lights go off when you unplug the brake switch? If the do then the brake switch is bad. If they don't then you have a wiring problem. Check the wires and plug going to the brake switch.

I had to work on a 07 Pontiac G6 with the brake light problem, it was the Body Control Module connector. I unplugged it, put in die-electric grease and plugged it back in. Worked for another 75k miles til the car was sold. So, the BCM is a good place to start. Hopefully it is an easy fix like that. A new BCM for my 07 was 200 bucks, and still had to program it.
