Default Flex to non flex engine swap

Hello All,

I am having some issues that need resolving. I paid a “friend” to swap my engine for my 07 GMC Sierra. I have a V8 5.3l flex fuel and I thought he was swapping for the same exact style but ended up putting in 04 V8 5.3l NON flex fuel. Now it only idles and does not drive..

My question is what do i need to do in order for this currently installed engine to get working? I do not have access to the old block or heads but I do have the intake and wires from the original engine. When truck turns on a check engine light comes on and only one code, “cam shaft position sensor”.

I have asked around and it sounds like I need to put some kind of conversion kit in the block but unsure as to what that will do? Any ideas?

did you swap the computer?

Flex fuel engines have additional sensors.
