Default Getting more power from a silverado

Hi all,
I have a really difficult decision on my hands. I have a Ford Highboy f-250 with a 460 that is causing me grief as it will be my daily driver and its just not working out with a 3 speed tranny sadly. I hate to give up on it but I'm thinking about getting myself a 07-13 silverado 4x4 that i can build out to around 500hp. I have always driven diesel trucks but really want something thats quicker. I realize you can build out diesels but there is just something abut the sound of an american v8. That was my reason for getting my old ford but i can't seem to work out the trans issue...... My question is, has anybody had any problems with getting power out of the ls trucks? I think I want the 6.0ls rather than the 5.3. What are some simple ways to get some more power from these trucks? I have heard that the ls are some of the strongest and easiest motors to get power out of. Any advice helps, thanks.

If you're gonna do a 07-13 and want power, look for the 11-13s with a 6.2. They have 400ish stock or somethin like that. You can easily get 400 to the wheels with a few simple mods like intake, longtube headers with a good muffler, and a custom tune. If you want more, break open the motor and do a mild cam and converter. They have a 6 speed transmission that'll hold up a lot better than the old 4 speed counterparts.
