Hi, I have a 2008 Chevy silverado 2 wheel drive with 64,000 miles, I'm the original owner..I just took it for an oil change and tire rotation...the advisor told me that I need these services: ( in san antonio texas )
Fuel induction service $375
transmission service $225
brake fluid service $ 125
rear diff service $160.
Do I need all these services? and by the way..my dash board just cracked!..they want to charge me $982 to replace it!! this is a quality issue that they should fix in my opinion!!

No you do not need these services. They may be recommended, but not necessary. many dashes crack because of being exposed to the sun. They won't fix it. You can get a dash cover or a dash mat to cover the crack. Or you can treat it with Armor All to keep it from getting worse.

do the transmission fluid and front, rear diff and tcase fluid changes. the other services are less critical.

If you had to pick one, the trans fluid service is the most important. the first service will remove 80% of all particulates (from assembly, parts mating, normal wear) that circulate in the trans throughout it life. No question, do it.

It will extend the life of the transmission. $225 every 60 000miles vs $5000 for a new trans. texas temperatures require you to follow the severe service maintenance schedule.

 

You may also have a reputable independent mechanic you like do the recommended services on a budgeted monthly or quarterly basis, starting with the most important ones Tech2 listed. I remember taking our '05 Suburban to the dealer for oil change and they said it was due for additional work based on mileage, and "do you want us to do those things today?" My wife said go ahead. I said, hold it a minute, please give me a written estimate. Needless to say, I declined the additional $900 of work; wasn't in the budget. My regular mechanic did the same work for considerably less over the next 3 months to fit my budget. My mechanic also always gives us a heads up of what is due in the near future and what expected costs will be.
