Default HELP - Posi unit installation

PLEASE DONT RESPOND IF YOU HAVENT DONE THIS JOB........

My 2011 2500 is eating the clutches on the posi unit and needs replacing.l jn

I did alot of research on which way to go - rebuild or replace - and with labor cost I think its prudent to just buy a new one and put it in.

BUT....... if I do, percentage-wise, what are the chances that someone can pull out the old one.....install the new one.....and get a good pattern on the ring & pinion with the lipstick check?

Thanks!!!

Chances are 100% if the installer cares at all that the job is done right.

What matters is that the ring and pinion gears are a matched set. The original set can be re-used, or a new set can be installed, but you don’t want to use the original pinion and a new ring gear, or vice versa.

If there’s any question as to the integrity of the original set, I’d recommend you just replace them. The labor required to replace them is only an additional hour (give or take) which would offset the cost of parts considering replacing them later would require carrier removal and fluid replacement anyway.
