Knocking on my 2008 5.3
Hey all. Recently I bought a 2008 Silverado LT with 90,000 miles. I purchased an extended warranty as well. Anyway, I had the truck checked for issues and went through it myself to make sure it won't be an issue. I decided to take it for a trip and one morning I started it and got some ticking for around 2 seconds. I didn't think anything of it, truck runs perfect. So one morning I decided to pull my oil cap and heard a lifter ticking. It's just loud enough that if you pull the oil cap you hear it, but if you put the cap on the engine is silent. The tick only happens at idle and goes away the second I give it a little gas. I then pulled the valve covers and heard a pretty good tick. None of the lifters are locked up, they all move nicely. I then decided to take the engine for its 4K mile oil change to keep up with the warranty conditions. It was here that I discovered the warranty company takes effect 90 days after purchase and won't cover this issue even when it does take effect. So I'm stuck with a ticking engine that I'm certain is AFM related and I'm afraid it's going to blow up. my question is, can I pull the heads and replace the cam shaft, lifters, valley plate with a AFM delete kit, or do you think my engine is toast? Should I just replace the engine and sell it? love the truck but this was my first purchase and the engine already blew up. Any guidance would be appreciated
