Default Oil Leak

I have recently purchased an 08 Silverado, 4 wheel drive, extended cab with the 5.3 engine. The bottom is very clean except the area above the oil filter. Just above the filter is a cover with two bolts holding it and I cannot determine what this is or what it is for. It appears to be the source of the leak. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

its where the oil cooler lines hookup to the pan, there is a gasket there that sounds like is probably your problem

Thanks cleveland63b...Is this a fairly common leak area? Will I have to drain the oil to change the gasket? What would you recommend as a good reference book of info on this truck?...if any?

i wouldn't say real common but I've seen it a handful of times. No you won't have to drain the oil you'll lose a little when you unbolt it but not much.

As far as a book I've heard Haynes and Chilton are decent but I have no personal experience with them, I've always had access to online service information through my jobs.
