2016 Chevy Silverado alarm indicator light
Hello,
2016 Chevy Silverado alarm indicator light, on the dash, is not working. What are the common problems that would cause the indicator light to malfunction other than the fuse and light bulb?
Thank you in advance.
Ken B.

It’s not working at all or is it coming on during the bulb check/gauge sweep and not coming on after that?
There are no fuses or grounds that directly affect the security light alone. The cluster is logic controlled - it doesn’t do anything unless it’s given a command from another module. The BCM doubles as the security module, so there’s quite a few possibilities as to why it’s not working - here’s just a few:
1) Internal cluster fault
2) Internal BCM fault
3) Open or short on the security indicator control circuit, including loose connections
4) Open or shorted power/ground circuit for the cluster or BCM (but if this were the case, you’d likely notice other problems).
Honestly the easiest way to diagnose this is to have it checked at a shop unless you have access to a professional grade scan tool. What you want to look at is the live data feed for the cluster - if the security indicator is being commanded on but it’s not lighting, the cluster is probably at fault, but a few other things (wiring) would need to be checked before condemning it.
