2018 nav question

Default 2018 nav question

just bought my 2018 Z71, it has navigation but i can only use it through on star
doing some research chevy made some with navigation on demand and some (like mine) that requires on star
anybody know why?
do i have to subscibe to on star for navigation only?

Yes, you have to subscribe to OnStar to use the navigation. You give them an address where you want to go and then it'll download to your unit and then it'll direct you to your destination.
There's a website (maybe more than one) where you can purchase the unit that gives you full navigation. You replace the unit behind the glovebox and install the nav antenna under the dashboard and then you don't need OnStar. It's very pricy. I paid like $900 for it. When I installed it, I made a small "U" shaped hole where the top of the dash overlaps in two separate pieces and put the antenna on top of the dash for best reception. I added Nav to my 2018 without going thur on-star , had to buy a nev. brainbox and had a company in FL program to my vin.
