Default Adding GPSr to my truck

I have a 2017 Silverado with the 8" screen. I want the factory GPS but it is way more than I want to spend right now. If is hook up my phone through Android Auto it works great for the NAV. But I don't want to have to do this to get the NAV to come up all the time. I was wondering if I have a second Android phone with built in GPSr, that means it has a GPS sensor in it and works independently of data towers (triangulation). I want to have a GPSr to get signal all the time and feed it to my Android Auto without having to hook up my phone.

It is a way cheaper alternative to adding a $500-$1200 HDMI unit.

But I don't know if it will "disconnect" my phone when I hook it up as I like to get/make phone calls via voice control. Has anyone tried this?
