Buying tires and wheels
Hey guys,
It's been a while since I have owned a truck (over 10) years. After recovering my stolen truck and building it back out of pocket-- I have no idea about what I can or cannot put as far as tires go. It is a 2016 Silverado LTZ and comes stock with 20" wheels. However, I am putting a 2" leveling kit in the front and don't want the stock 20" wheels if I don't need them. Is it possible to go down to 18" or 17" so I can increase the size of the tire to 33"? Any help is great. Discount tire salesman said I HAD to put 20" wheels and tire combo as it it stock so I thought I'd check in with the experts who actually own Silverados.
Thanks,
Dave

I’m not totally familiar with changes like this, but the primary issue is the brake calipers will probably rub on a smaller rim unless it’s got significant negative offset or you utilize a hub spacer.
Double check the clearance you have between the caliper and rim and make sure it’ll be possible to mount smaller rims without changing calipers and possibly the knuckles.

17's shouldn't be a problem, My 18 came with 20's there is plenty of room for 17's. look at the distance between the brake caliper and the wheel, if you have 2" or more should be good. i'm planning on running 17's with 37" tires.
