Intermittent no start
Good afternoon.
First post so hopefully all goes well. I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 with an intermittent no start issue. Intermittent meaning once or twice a month at most. What is happening is, when I insert the key into the ignition and turn it on, nothing lights up and I dont get any input when I try to start the truck. Luckily, I have a remote start and it starts every time.
Some basic google searches points me to the ignition switch BUT am not sure if this is where I should be going. If it's a bad switch, would it not do this all the time? I am never stranded because of the remote start BUT it is annoying. Once I get it started with the RS, the truck runs and drives fine. 99% of the time, I put the key in the ignition and all the bells and whistles go off and it starts no problem. When I put the key in and get no response, I know immediately to start with the RS. Has anyone had similar issues.
Changing the ignition switch seems to be an easy fix but since its will go for a long time between no starts, its hard to drop it off and get a diagnosis. Would I need to get the key reprogrammed with the new ignition switch? Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome!
I had the same issue on my 2016 and after going through the usual suspects like loose/corroded battery terminals and ground wires etc, i took it to my usual mechanic. After explaining the symptoms and what i had checked, he told me it was probably the sensor plug near the battery that was loose/corroded and that he's seen it happen quite a few times. If you look at the side of the battery that faces the engine, you will see a black "ring" about 1 1/2" in diameter that the ground wires go thru coming from the negative battery terminal. Thats the battery current sensor and theres a plug that attaches to it and thats the one he unplugged and cleaned. I havent had the issue since. Hopefully its that simple for you.
