Default Intermittent radio failure

I have a 2015 Silverado 3500 with the large navigation radio. I have been experiencing a condition of no radio or volume. It will show the radio ID and will switch between radio and navigation but will have no sound and can not control the radio. I thought it was a bluetooth problem with my phone so I forgot all phones and turned off the bluetooth. At first I thought it fixed it, but now it has happened 3 more times in 2 days. To fix the issue, so far I have only been able to turn the truck off and wait a while. Then it will sometimes start working again. And if not I just wait longer. Please help figure out this intermittent issue.

there are multiple build configurations...without know what you have its hard to say. My first check would be for signal out of the radio at the radio speaker wires...if no voltage (I check with a power probe that has a internal speaker) it probably needs a radio.

The issue seems to be more of a software issue. The radio will only show the radio ID. It locks out all sound including the Onstar and steering wheel controls. What other information might you want or need to help me out?
