Default New 2018 Silverado 2500HD

New to the forum. Our 2005 Silverado made it to 300k miles and the lost oil pressure at start up. Decided to get a new one.

I can do without the fancy electronics with one exception. I do like the backup camera and do a lot of towing.

I was surprised the oil pressure rarely exceeded 40psi. So suprised, I asked the dealer to check it out. They said it was normal. So I made sure they added it to the repair order.

I am also surprised at the mpg. I am lucky to hit 13 on the highway. My 05 averaged 14 @70mph and 17 at 60mph. Maybe it will be better when it geta broke in. 1700 miles so far.

Which engine do you have? My 13 gets about 17 on the highway and around 13-14 in the city.

It got what I am told are one of the last 6.0 litre motors. If I remember correctly, the 6.0 was available until August 2017 then they switched to 5.3 (standard) and 6.2 optional but only on high end trim levels only. They also switched the headlights to those fancy LED bulbs.

It does have the 4.10 diffs but so did my '05. Oh, I did have a K&N cartridge filter on the 05 which might have helped a little. I haven't really put my foot into this one or towed anything - less than 1800 miles on it. But it seems to have really good low end stones.

That’s great you have one of last 6.0 engines. It is a Gen 4 engine and 40 psi oil pressure is completely normal. The 2014, the 5.3 engine was updated to Gen 5 and has a two stage oil pressure system and the newer version of the AFM system which is for cylinder deactivation. The oil pressure on a 5.3 is low for idling and then higher for higher rpms. I heard it is as high as 70 psi. Your 6.0 does not have AFM so you never have to worry about it. The 6.0 is a very reliable work horse. My 2008 6.0 has 150,000 miles on it and never had any problems. I average 16 mpg at about 65 m/hr with a 3.73 diff. Enjoy your Burb!

Did my first towing with the Silverado 2500HD over the weekend. I was pulling a 1300lb equipment trailer and a Kubota RTV-X1120 UTV. Its about 2000lbs.

The manual says you can switch to tow/haul mode and let the computer drive it or if it is shifting too much, go to manual mode.

On the highway, I believe the tow/haul mode handled everything perfectly. You can tell it has 70hp more than the '05. When we turned off the road into the hills, I switched to manual.. This gave me the best control on the changing grades and curves.

The integrated brake controller is great. Unlike the controller I had on the '05 where the brakes were applied at 100% from the moment you step on the brake, this thing senses when you let up on the truck brakes and backs off the trailer proportionately. Really cool.

I didn't even glance at the fuel economy but the fuel gauge indicated that I used more gas than with the '05. We'll see once it gets broken in better (2100 miles) and once I get the KN air filter in it

First vehicle to come with Michelin tires. They seem durable enough but turn into red clay doughnuts instantly. I hope they last awhile but can't help longing for my BFK All Terrains.
