Why Can't I do a Burnout?
I have a 2018 Silverado 2500HD Short Box 4x4 with the last of the 6.0 engines. It has a 4.10 locking diff.
I am just going to say it. This truck will not do a burnout despite having 70 more horsepower, street tires and a short bed. By contrast, my long bed 2005 2500HD 4x4 with a 6.0 and 4.10 and locking diff would roast the tires off the line.
I obviously did not buy this for that purpose. But not long ago at a traffic light, a semi truck came barreling toward me from behind and was definitely not going to stop in time. The intersection was clear so I nailed the throttle to get out of his way. I stomped the pedal, and nothing happened. After about 2 seconds, it took off. It felt like it stuttered. I use 89 octane gas by the way. He hit the guy next to me hard.
Next time I got the chance, I took it over to a mall parking lot and tried nailing the throttle a few times. It feels like the throttle is not directly connected to the engine or something.
I did check the manual and disabled the TCS and Stabilitrak in case some computer was preventing me from doing this. It did not help.
Again I am not attempting to check my quarter mile time, I just want to know why I can't punch it and see the reaction I am used to.
I appreciate any advice on this - thanks.

Most newer vehicles ,the gas pedal is not physically connected to the throttle body via cable any more, they use a "fly by wire" type meaning sensors and wires. My 17 silverado had crazy throttle delay as well but i fixed it, install a product called "pedal commander" it costs around 250-300 but man there is zero delay! It "wakes" your truck up and gives it a more powerful feel by eliminating any delay, also search discount codes for it i got 30 bucks off mine , there are 4 main settings eco city sport and sport + then each one has 8 sub settings ranging from -4 to +4 i run sport +3 all the time . I promise you this is what you need!

my drive by wire 04 car and 07 truck would do burnouts no problem. Its not the drive by wire throttle directly...its the pcm programming; designed to protect the driveline from abuse. any change in programming with void your warranty. When a engine or trans fails under warranty...gm will take snapshots of the programming codes....if they are not factory...void. They can even tell how many times a module has been flashed...so they even know when custom tunes have been removed. leave it factory until your off powertrain warranty.

I found a leak around the satellite antenna on my 2018 Silverado and had it at the dealer for the fix. They were kind enough to provide me with a 2019 Silverado 1500. It had the 5.3L V8.
I could not believe the difference. I took it out in the country and tested the acceleration. From a dead stop, it roasted the tires and actually push me back in the seat hard. Throttle response was instantaneous and gratifying. And surprising for locking rear diff - I had a two wheel burnout with a smaller engine than my 2500 6.0.
If I can get similar performance from a Pedal Commander, I will get one for sure. Thanks for the replies.
