2020 Silverado2.7L Turbo Gas Mileage Question
All -
I bought a used 2020 Silverado Custom with the 2.7L turbo engine.
I am pleasantly surprised by the performance of this engine, and have two friends that have pickups with the same engine (GMC Sierra and Silverado), and they, too, are impressed with the performance.
Here's the weird thing .. both of them are getting between 24 - 27mpg, and I am averaging 19mpg. I drive the truck mostly like an old man. I don't accelerate aggressively from traffic lights, and I try to keep the RPMs under 2500 as much as I can.
My friend with the Sierra, his truck is a 2022. My friend with the Silverado, his truck is a 2020. Both live near me, so weather factors are the same. They drive in more city traffic than I do, so I'd expect to get at least 24mpg. My friend with the 2020 Silverado swears by Sunoco gas. I get my gas from local grocery store/big box store gas stations. I doubt this helps, but it is a bit cheaper (and probably less clean).
I know there are some basic things to check - tire pressure, quality of fuel, among them. I am going to change out the air filter, but any suggestions? My truck is still under dealer warranty, so if there is a power train issue, I will definitely take it in to get it looked at.
Thanks in advance -

Besides driver to driver variation, there are several non-driver factors involved such as the rear end ratio, tire size, Oxygen sensor age & condition, PCM programing both permanently programmed and learned programming, etc. With respect to the PCM learned programming, the previous owner might have driven like a crazy person and that driver's habits were programmed into the PCM's learned memory area. You might want to remove the appropriate fuses for the PCM for 30 - 60 minutes so it "forgets" the previous owner's "bad habits" and then learns your apparently more conservative driving habits. Regarding the Oxygen sensors, it is known that with time and mileage, Oxygen sensors loose efficiency but since there are only 4 years on the Oxygen sensors, and an unknown number of miles, I doubt you are dealing with lazy Oxygen sensors.
Good Luck!
