Default Detonation

I have a 6.2 trailboss with 8000 miles. I have a pulsar lt and run strictly shell v-power 93. I feel like sometimes I can still hear detonation briefly under a hard acceleration. How can I stop this ? I’m using amsoil 0/20 signature series.

I would think your knock sensor would back the timing down, but perhaps at WOT it doesn't. The oil you use won't stop it, as it's a fuel/ignition issue. At 8000 miles you can't have any build-up of carbon deposits on the top of the pistons, so it MIGHT be a VVT issue, but I don't know for sure

Could be, but only Chevron is better than Shell. I use to in the biz of selling fuels and lubricants long ago. Chevron used
to add less Techron to Regular and Plus grades, then Supreme, but It's all the same amount added at the terminal injectors now.

The El Cheapo gasoline stations won't change the filters out anywhere as long as a good station like Shell or Chevron demands.

I have had very poor luck using Shell gasoline in my vehicles. Try filling up with gas from BP, Exxon, Mobil, Phillips 66, Texaco, etc. - any of the brands on the Top Tier list. You might find that you get better performance as compared to Shell.

I used to use BP, but I did some research and I do not think it is considered top tier anymore. Might switch back, it is definitely cheaper, And same price cash or card as well locally. Also added a bottle of amsoil performance improver to the fuel and I do not think I have heard it again. Romped on it a little to push that stuff through the system.

While BP may not be Top Tier anymore, their gasoline likely meets or exceeds the Top Tier requirements. I would not hesitate to use BP/Amoco gasoline as it has always been a premium product
