Dually wheel balancing, Centramatics?, and valve stem extensions
I took delivery of a 2024 Silverado 3500 LTZ DRW crew cab last Saturday (12/30). This is my first dually, so I'll be asking a few dumb newbie questions ...
I'm going to put valve stem extensions on the rear wheels. I'ill probably remove the outer wheels to do that, and I'm thinking of adding Centramatic wheel balancers, as suggested by a friend. I have to say, those things seem kind-of like snake oil to me ... do they really work? Are they worth installing (for about $235)?
The valve stems on each pair of wheels are currently right across from each other, kind of pointing at each other. When I put the outer wheel back on, I was thinking I might rotate it so that the stems were on opposite sides of the wheel. Will that cause a problem? I'm thinking that if the wheel is balanced, then rotating it 180 degrees shouldn't make it unbalanced. Am I right about that?
I figure I just have to make sure the holes in the wheel and the hubcap line up so that the valve stem extensions can easily be run through the holes and secured on the outside of the outer wheel.
Does that sound about right?
Thanks for any feedback
