Default Astro-Safari Advanture 2010

Well since my family has been doing a bunch of off roading with the Jeep lately, it's making me want to grab my vans and join in the fun.

Introducing, The Astro-Safari Advanture. The Astro-Safari Advanture is a gathering primarily for Astro/Safari van owners, but other vehicles of all types are welcome to join in. The Astro-Safari Advanture will be held in areas that offer many types of fun driving so that all vans can participate, usually this will be a mountainous area with on and off road fun for all.

For the first year two locations are being considered.

Location 1:
Coal Creek OHV Area (also known as Windrock)
555 Windrock Park Lane
Oliver Springs, TN 37840 (about 30 miles from Knoxville)

This is a pay to play per person area, recommend 2-3 days on the trails and maybe a couple days cruising the local mountain roads. Nearby are the famous Tail of The Dragon (Deals Gap), Cherohala Skyway and many other fun drives. A motorcycling site has a fun looking loop circling Coal Creek called the Devil's Triangle.

Location 2:
Ouray, CO

Lots of FREE off road local mountain roads to explore and lots of paved twisty mountain roads to have fun on. Drivers can experience the off-road Black Bear Rd heading into Telluride (switchbacks, slight off-cambers, cliffside with huge drops) and the paved Million Dollar Highway (lots of twisties, no guardrails, and again big drops off).

Both locations offer driving for all levels and have maps available for the off road trails listing difficultly, lots of cool twisty paved roads and have plenty of camping and hotels available.

The location will be voted on and finalized Sept 1st, 2009. This will allow time to pre-run the location with both a stock 2WD and a lifted AWD/4x4 van establishing which off-road trails are passable with each.

This will most likely be a week long event during school's summer break.

Since this is event being posted on several forums, the location can be voted on at The Astro-Safari Advanture website.
