Default Transfer case

My 2000 Astro awd transfer case just ate itself and I'm wondering if I can just disconnect the transfer case from the tranny and drive it in 2wd. I need to get it to my mechanic about 1/2 mile away.

you'll have to be more specific than "ate itself"

All I can know is that I felt something go and the next thing I'm hearing a sound like a can full o parts tumbling. Sounds like it's coming from transfer case. Does it in gear and rolling in neutral.

then the chain probably snapped, in which case flat bed towing is your only option.
