brake issues 2004 avalanche
just bought a 2004 chev avalanche about 2 months ago. since ive bought it ive been having the brake at random time engaging. its not sticky calipers because one ive checked them and 2 its not from dead stop. has no real consistent time it happens. phoned around and they tell me its the abs sensors and other them me that isnt possible. anyways long story short im lost and its really kicken the crap out of the truck.
If you are talking about the brakes feeling funny when you are applying the brake it could be the antilock brake system activating. I have seen this happen when one of the front abs sensors was not working correctly. The front wheel bearings were replaced and the hubs came with new abs sensors in them. The sensor on one of the hubs was not seated properly so when turning and applying the brake the abs system would engage. I would start looking at the abs sensors.
thanks "avgas" thats a start anyways i guess. its not really that my brakes feel funny but more they are all coming on just drivin down the road. ill take a closer look around the sensors this weekend when i get a minute. is there anyway to test each sensor?
I am not sure how you would test each sensor. If your saying the brakes are applied without your foot being on the brake pedal you have a anti-lock brake issue. The anti-lock brake system has a electric motor / pump that produces brake pressure. That would be the only way any brake fluid could be forced into the braking system.
Do you have a "Brake Team" in your area? They would prob be able to test each for you for free or cheap...

so hers the issue. unplugged the abs fuse from under the hood. brake still coming on for no reason while drivin down the road. so that should scratch the abs from the list of possible issues right? what now?

ok so heres the latest. went to change the front brake pads. when i went to compress the caliber it wouldnt move at all. not even enough to be able to remove it. i had to release the pressure from the bleeder screw. so is that a slave cylinder issue or something else. would it be possible that would be my problem all along. would thought cause the rest to slowly come on some how
It sounds like a sticking isolation valve (part of the BPMV) which is normally open when the ABS is not active. Consider taking it in for service. You need a scan tool to diagnose the 2004 properly. I've been told that especially the BPMV is nothing to fool with.
