Cylinder Deactivation - Magic Fix??
Hello All,
I am brand new to this forum, and Chevrolet.
I am looking at buying a 2013 Avalanche with less than 35,000 miles on it. However, I've done my due diligence (i.e. searched YouTube for opinions) and have come away concerned about the cylinder deactivation system on the Chevy 5.3L. I use Archoil oil additive in my engines as a general rule and I use Lucas fuel treatment on a regular basis.
What does the group think about these additives helping to avoid the issues surrounding the cylinder deactivation system. Of course, I would want every bit of gas mileage I could get out of this Avalanche so I'm not exactly interested in going straight to deactivation of the system.
Thank you in advance.

It's not if but when a lifter breaks in these engines. There is a class action lawsuit against GM right now for year ranges 14-22 for this reason. Why 07 nnbs to 13 wasn't included I don't know. There are 21 and 22 model years ruining engines with only 5-10k miles on them. I know of a gentlemen who has owned a 2012 since new changed oil and babied it. Made it to 142k until a lifter broke and ate the cam. In my experience afm/dod in those models doesn't really do anything to help with fuel mileage. My buddy has had a range box plugged in to his 2011 for 6 years and he never noticed a change in fuel mileage better or worse. Look at it this way. For the amount of fuel you could buy vs the cost of replacing the engine in my opinion I would just buy the range dod/afm disabler on amazon and be done with it.
