I have a 1996 Chevy Corsica 3.1, and the temp gauge is not working, it was until I changed the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, the Coolant temp sensor is new, the cooling fan works as it should. I checked the wiring from the sensor to the harness connection near the alternator, all three wires had continuity. I am out of ideas. Thanks

 

Do you have the old sensor? Why did you replace it?

Anyways - unplug the new sensor, plug in the old one. (Don't install). Does it work? You might to dip the old sensor in some hot boiling water I guess to get a reading.



Well, that's just an odd idea I had.

 

I ordered and received two factory service manuals off of ebay, using the test procedure outlined in the manual, gauge tested OK, appears to be a bad connector and or wiring problem, I may have damaged something when I removed the plenum, and yes I connected the old sensor, no joy, so, I am going to get a new connector and run new wires to the harness connector near the alternator. Thank you for your reply.

 

Problem Solved, broken wire coming from the sensor, also the sensor was defective.
