Default Fuel Filter Going Bad - Symptoms?

I just replaced my fuel filter yesterday at 180,000 miles. This is the first time I did this and I've owned the car since 90,000 miles (8yrs). I was just curious if there are any obvious signs of a fuel filter going bad? It was only $10 and I figured I'd change it to allow good fuel pressure and take pressure off of the MORE EXPENSIVE fuel pump. I made a video of it. Check it out...

This should be a maintenance item performed IMO every 15000 miles. The issue is they usually have no symptoms, they just finally plug off, and can leave you stranded.
