Well, my 81 has High Comp pistons, moderate cams, dual flowmaster exhaust, a delete on the OBD system, the smog pump, and the cats.
I also have a 3.73 rear-end in it, which is a little bit of a low gear compared to the 3.08 it came with being a 3-speed. It catches a nice second.

You'll have a hard time finding an intake and carb kit that fits on it due to clearance issues. If you did go with an intake manifold, it better be no higher than the stock and it has to be a spreadbore. The carb also has to be a spreadbore due to the fact that the adapter will make it too high to fit under the hood.

Flowtech heads are good. Edelbrock heads are good and also AFR, Patriot, and Dart just to name a few.
If your car has A/C, you will want to mind the Valve cover clearance when you put new heads on it. It may get in the way of putting the belt on the compressor.

Probably something close to a 276/440 with roller rockers. No more than that if you still want it streetable...
Lunati cams are a really good brand, but you'll want to leave your options open though.
