My 98 v6 is overheating when driving and the transmission seems like it's going into a fail safe mode. It doesn't want to shift gears and revs really high even when cold. The radiator was leaking so we replaced it with a brand new one. Any idea what I should try next?

Replace the thermostat and check for a collapsed hose. Scan for codes.
