I just bought an 87 wagon with the 305 in it. On almost every start the car will stall out either when in park and I hold down the brake or when i put it into gear (R and D)without bringing up the RPMs. Automatic transmission. Any advice?

 

Sounds to me like the torque converter is stuck in lock-up. Hydraulic or computer problem if it is. I'm sure there are other possible causes.

 

I have a 93 z71 with a 4L60e automatic, I put it in drive or reverse and it turns off. Any ideas?

 

Whats the idle rpm?

 

Not sure but I think it’s around 700

 

700 is ok. if its doesn't stall in neutral...the tcc may be stuck on
