Default 87 caprice running issues

i have a 87 caprice wagon with the 307. has been running OK for the last month or so ( only had it a short time) it has always been gut less wont even spin the tires in the rain on slick concret. i put a flowmaster that i had laying around. well 2 weeks ago it started running rough when it gets warm. it has just kept getting worse. now it shifts fast when you pull out tries to go straight to over drive and when you slow down it trys to die and does not want to down shift. you have to pul shifter down through gears to down shift. checked fluid and its fine. also decided to put new plugs in it and i swear it runs worse now then before. it also smells like its running rich. now the last 2 days its not even wanting to idle it dies anytime you let off the gas this thing has me lost. motor looks all stock very clean was an old mans. i pulled cats off and you can see through them so there clear. and like i say the longer you drive it the worse it runs any help? i was going to adjust the timing it loos very retarted but i dont see how to adjut the dist. as theres not even a lock down on it

Un plug the lockup switch on your transmission. its a small white plug with 4 prongs but probly only 1 or 2 wires. Its on the side of the tranny. I had the same problem with my 89 caprice and drove it with no lockup for bout a year till I got around to replacing the Lockup solonoid and switch in the tranny. It wont hurt it and it will tell you if thats the problem. Also to check the timing you need a magnetic pickup tool. The timing is controlled by the esc modual and i had to have a shop set my timing after i replaced the esc.(electronic Spark Control)... Another thing you can do is make sure the kickdown cable isnt broke or jammed. it controls when your tranny shifts and it runs from transmission to carb linkage below where the throttle cable hooks up. Disconnect it and make sure it has resistance going in when you pull it out with your hand. there is an adjuster button hear mounting bracket on the intake you can use to slide it forward or backward. the further out the carb linkage pulls the cable the later it would shift. however since it dont downshift either that leads me to the lockup solonoid. unplug it and drop some burnouts. Have a shop do your timing if the lockup isnt the problem
