Default Door Hinges on 1975 Caprice

I recently bought a 1975 Caprice convertible to restore. It's generally in good shape, but the driver's side door is sagging. Instead of buying new pins and bushings, i just purchased 4 new hinges.

Yesterday, I replaced the driver's side hinges, but I'm having a tough time adjusting the gaps and setting the door correctly. The door is now rubbing against the front fender.

Anyone ever change the hinges successfully? Any tips or advice?

Do you have shims for the hinge? Sounds like it needs shimed towards the back of the car. If you have access to a floor jack, use that to do your lifting to the door cradled on it.

Thanks for the reply.

What kind of shim? Where do I get the shim? Certainly not a wood shim, correct?

(I did use a jack. It would terrible without the jack.)

These are going to be steel shims, and you shoudln't need many jst enough to re-enfource the hinge on the boby to support the door

I'll grab a shim or two, but I've just realized that the easiest way to adjust the door (that is, to access each of the bolts on the hinges) is to remove the fender first. I'm going to try that tomorrow and see how it goes.
