Default Need a new master cylinder for my 71 Caprice

Looking up the car it's telling me I need M76162 but it doesn't have a recessed hole deep enough for the rod coming out that my brake pedal pushes forward.

m76160 Looks like what I need but seems to be out of stock at alot of places.

Can I rebuild my old m76160?
Did they come with the m76160 style originally? Can I easily convert so it'll take a M76162? I have one.

Any tips appreciated.

Welcome from Florida. Both Amazon and Ebay have listings for master cylinders for a 1991 Caprice. They also have rebuild kits. You will have to look and see if they are correct for your application.

Hey thanks for the reply, from Nova Scotia. I checked out the 91 master cylinders you mentioned and they all appear to have the shallow plunger on thr master cylinder. I need something with a 1-2 inch recessed hole.

Might look into availability of a compatible push-rod, or
fabbing one, or modifying a junkyard duplicate for length?

Seems peculiar that a mainstream app would not have
reman master cylinders available.

I see " '71 " and " '91 " in this thread. Is that adding to
confusion / bad "hits"?
