My dad bought the pretty classic 1990 brougham caprice and since we bought it we have never open the engine. " Dad loves the car and it was always in storage".

Now we want to relicens the car but there's a white smoke when you hit the accelerator so it fails the wof fitness.

We are thinking on rebuilding the engine and makes it better. we're not looking for racing or hard core rebuild. Just original and genuine parts.

 

Likely oil getting past the rings.
New rings for sure, hopefully not scored walls.
If you just want to pass the test, an oil change to a thicker oil plus an additive might do the trick...but it defiantly won't solve the problem.

 

Check out the cost and availability of a Chevy engine in a crate or short block .

If you go short block , check your heads & valves , too .

How many miles ?

PS Burning oil can be coming past the valve guides / seals . A compression test should give you more information . How much oil is it burning any way ?
