2012 Captiva electrical issues
We have a 2012 Captiva and are experiencing the same electrical problems. Radio went on/off several times over the course of a week and now is off and won't come back on. I was going to check the fuse, but after reading all of these other posts it seem clear this is not a simple fuse issue, and if it were the fuse it would not have gone one/off and then back on again.
Very disappointed. We will be taking it into the dealer to see what their solution is.

UPDATE
I when to dealer on 8/7/15 and replaced battery and cable. I've driven over 100 miles since then and have not experienced the issue again.
I have a 2012 CHevrolet Captiva, We recently took it from Utah to California for vacation and every time we hit the break the voltage went low and the radio shut off. Made it through vacation. keeps going daily getting more frequent a quick flash of the ABS light or the Parking Break light with a wrench under it and warnings that i need my stabiltraction serviced. Its under warranty i take it in they replace the alternator and the control module. they say the alternator started going bad burnded out the control modul. one week later same exact problem its now back in the shop i have a rental car. I owe 2000.00 more than its worth but think i will suck it up and trade it in for a Toyota. So sick of CHevrolet issues my car before this was blazer again electrical issues. I dont know why i thought that another one was a good idea.
^ That's exactly what we did. Traded it in for a 2015 Toyota Rav 4. Wife is happy now.
What really chaps me is these posts continue to occur. Chevrolet is obviously watching this. Now nearly 9 pages of various people complaining about the same exact symptoms and I don't see anyone being taken care of. Ive been a Chevrolet man for long time and always supported the company. I absolutely love my 2005 Silverado 2500 HD 4X4. Been an awesome truck and have no short term intentions of selling it. Drove my 01 GMC sierra for 10 years with no trouble, 1990 SS 454 pickup was driven for several years with nothing more than a fan clutch.
But this???Chevrolet is big enough to do something about it and has chosen not to for whatever reason.

Wife took 2012 Captiva to Tallahassee to visit mother. Just called me. She is stranded. Can't get the key out of the ignition. She called tow truck to get car towed to dealership in Tallahassee. Tow truck driver found something loose on the battery. He moved it slightly and car powered up and started. He also told her the battery was way too hot. She is driving it to the dealer right now. So, it appears there is an electrical short on one of the battery cables. The terminal connections were not loose. I will re-post once I find out exactly what they determine this issue is. Hopefully they will be able to figure it out.
Dealership found a nut missing on something where the positive cable connects to the positive terminal on the battery. There was another nut loose in this same area. I will have a better description when my wife returns from Tallahassee next week when she can show me exactly what they did. Seems like a simple fix. Dealer said this would definitely cause electrical problems, including the key not coming out of the ignition. Have to manage up Dale Earnhart Chevy Dealership in Tallahassee. The did this for no charge. Also, the tow truck operator would not charge my wife either. Nice to know there are still people who want to help others out there!

I was beyond relieved to find this forum about Captiva electrical issues as I was thinking it was "just my car" and was baffled about the multitude of intermittent electrical problems I've been enduring that are a big safety concern for me. Same as everyone listed here (various brake lights on dash, service traction control alert, zero radio power, loss of engine power, AC lights flashing, entire car losing power), and all mysteriously occurring and then mysteriously disappearing.
I have an aftermarket warranty who sends an inspector to see proof of the problem, but with the intermittent randomness of the problem, my mechanic could not accurately determine the problem much less show an inspector the evidence so they would pay for it. There were no error messages recorded in the computer (possibly because of these low voltage power failures, but who knows!!!).
I found this forum, and see that battery cables and power control box seem to be the most common "hopeful" solution. My friend suggests it is a "ground" problem and might be related to the star grounding system. I went to the dealership who thought it could be the battery and suggested I check that out before possibly spending a lot on their hourly rates which was very nice, but Firestone confirmed my Interstate battery and power system tested excellent.
I tried called Chevy Customer Care who did not help me (my Chevy confirmation# 8-1537341772)! I also am a long-time Chevy owner (two Camaros previously for 10 years each), and was shocked at the lack of support. The first rep did suggest that if I think a RECALL is needed, that I need to contact the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Agency) who actually issues recalls. I called them and filed a complaint (can be done online as well) - My NHTSA confirmation# 10749589. Now I'm adding a post to this forum (AUG 2015).
I will be bringing a printout (prints out to 21 pages!) of this forum to my dealership (San Jose, CA), and hope they can test the battery cables and main power control box along with checking the star grounding. I'm also hoping they will be able to DETERMINE the problem, so that they can show the warranty inspector evidence so I don't have to pay for all this myself!!!
I agree with others who are shocked that Chevy is watching this forum and does not help us! With such a large mass of the same electrical problems, Chevy owes us a solution. This is time consuming and costly not to mention very stressful. I am very disappointed by Chevy here!!!

So after several months of no new issues we now have a problem. After previously having new battery clamps put on because of the weird warning lights now the alternator has gone out. The car has only 54000 miles on it and the alternator repair will run us over 800 because in the process of going out it broke the main belt. This car may really be the most expensive car I've owned with the number and cost of repairs. Thanks Chevy!!!
Like pretty much everyone else on this forum, my 2012 Captiva is having electrical issues. Bought mine from Hertz (prior rental) with under 30,000 mi on it. After a few months, started having issues with keyless entry and lights in my car flashing lights such as Service Traction control and parking brake, engine light. Sometimes the car doesnt unlock or lock with remote so I have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it at least once a week.
I have taken my car to the Chevy dealership about 4 times in the last 8 months alone for this issue. They replaced the BCM computer which cost about $600 and MULTIPLE diagnostic fees. The last time I took my car there, they coulndt find the problem, and I literally had to restart my car by myself in the parking lot of the dealership. I have made a case with Chevy with no response.
It is aggravating and very flipping obvious that this is a factory issue, not a wear and tear one. I want Chevy to replace my cables without charge as I believe they have faulty wiring. Please everyone with this issue post their problem, then maybe Chevy will own up to this defect and help us out. Thank you
