2014 Captive .... old remote fob broke ! bought a new one ... anyone know how to program please !?

Put working key in the ignition switch and turn it to "start". leave it in for a minute, then immediately pull it out, Put the new key in and turn it to start. Wait a minute. Should be programmed now.

Well, that is what you will be doing, programming the key fob to operate your vehicle doors. I just did it with my 2015 Malibu, and it worked, no problems. Its finding a place that will cut the grooves in the blank key itself, that was the only issue I had, not with programming the fob. ,

Perhaps so, but frankly, I have dealt with many vehicle dealerships, both auto and truck (not pickup trucks) and they all vary in honesty and integety,
no matter what brand of vehicle, not only for my vehicles, but the vehicles we used to own in my own former life in the sales and delivery of petroluem,
so no blame goes to General Motors/GMC/Chevrolet corporation as these dealerships are _franchises_ in most all cases, and NOT owned by the corporation.

Have you never done anything to see if you can program your key fob yet? Why not give it a try? If it does not work, I'd get a quote from various GM dealerships, even out of town dealers.

Why pay more you you have to do so? Whats in a "book" doesn't always mean you can't work outside the "box" or book at all.

The locksmith I first went to looked at it and told me that he wouldn't cut the key as he had "issues" in the past with non-Chevrolet key fob metals "damaging his equipment". Sounded like BS to me, but regardless, I won't be using them ever again, as I do not being lied to. Lie to your customers, and you will lose them, period.

BTW, this place is a 60 year old "go-to" lock and safe smith for most folks in town, yet he likely couldn't cut it, so I found a L/S that had no problems cutting the steel at all.
