Default Just clicks. Starter will not turn

2010 Captiva with 40,000 miles. In Medellin, Colomba.

We love the car when it will start and we can actually drive it.

Late last week the key would not turn. Everything was dead and no contact. The dinger would not ding, no interior lights, radio etc.....nothing, just dead and key would not turn. By opening and closing doors and hatch back, jerking the wheel, trying to shift it etc it would randomly for no seeming rhyme or reason would start dinging, make contact and start. The problem continued intermittently for a few days.

Then last Sunday the key would turn, dinger dinged, accessories and lights came on etc. but the starter would not engage......just a clicking noise near the relay box behind the battery.... and of course lots of unusual dash board messages about traction control etc.

We checked the battery voltage which showed 11.5 to 12 v but went ahead and charged it for a couple hours. No problem there, the meter showed 12v. Checked battery cables.....no problems there either. We then changed out a couple relays. The dealer had sent someone over to try and get it going and had brought a couple new relays.

The technician told us to have it towed in. It's been there for 4 days and no solution. They claim battery cables are good and do not get any resistance. No voltage drop there or on any other circuit they tested...... including the solenoid and starter. They claim they have tested all of them. I was convinced it was the battery cables because of all the reports of problems that I have read here.

Since we bought the car there has been a dash board message "cofre abierto" that means the hatch back is not closed....but it is. Also, the ballasts for the low beam headlights are out and the dealer cannot locate replacements so we drive at night on high beams. Not a real problem here in Colombia where lots of people drive with no lights or pay no attention to low or high beam. Seriously, no one notices. LOL

The dealer and techs are stumped and we are stuck without transportation.

Please help! Is there a contact or expert responsible for Colombia that you can put us in contact with. Also, how can we get replacement parts expedited? I am thinking we might just have to start guessing and start replacing parts...starting with the most logical culprits.

Forgot to mention, we had similar problems last Decemeber and replaced the battery and did not have problems after that.......until now.

We are willing to do anything to get our car back. But are stumped.

Please help!
