Default 02 Cavalir TRAC OFF light issues

Hello,

I have an 02 Cavalir 2.2 automatic trans, and other than this problem it runs and drives great. My problem is that spontaneously while driving the TRAC OFF light will come on, and stay on, and this will cause the transmission to delay shifting and shift hard while climbing gears. It does not prompt any other lights to come on and other than slightly harder shifting there are not other problems. This started up about a week ago and for the first time today it came on and shortly after accelerating at a stop light the car began to accelerate and then just shut down. It didn't even seem to struggle. Now, every time after this light comes on if I shut the car down and then start back up the light will be off and it will **** like a dream. I do not feel this to be a speed sensor problem as the frequency of this problem is irregular so for me this rules out a speed sensor or shifting solenoid, so does this mean a computer problem? Any advise would be great.

Thanks
Brian

get the codes read and post them here. you will need a full function scan tool to read the chassis codes that will be set. a code reader or budget scan tool will not be able to read chassis codes.

Sorry if this is late. This happen to me with my last cavalier. It was something called the speed throttle sensor, or something like that. CarX fixed it for around 125 parts and labor. Hope this helps.
