hey all-new here-my husband and i bought a cavalier last week-been running great-only has 28,000 miles on it-i was leaving work last night and the key wont turn in the ignition-we tried everything by unhooking the battary to moving the wheel-cant even move it into neutral. It was working fine-how can it go like that and what do you think it is??

 

try pushing on the shifter(push it toward the dash)wiggle the shifter a little bit while pushing on it just to make sure it is fully shifted into the park position.You should not be able to move the shifter without the key turned to ON position and by depreesing the brake pedal.

 

i have the same problem in my 99 cav. what i do is turn the wheel while turning the key

 

My wife's 94 key works fine, but my copy does what you explain. Maybe you have a copy that was a bad cut?
