Default 2000 Cavalier Overheating

Parts Replaced
-Thermostat
-Water Pump

Coolant pressure test Passed.
When I run it up and let it idle with the reservoir cap removed. When temperature rises water starts to bubble out from the top of reservoir then fan kicks on and water sucks down from reservoir and the temperature stabilizes. I repeated this process twice and drove a couple miles home with no issues. after sitting a few days it started overheating again. No coolant in the oil and no white smoke from the exhaust. Do i just need to add more coolant as I know I lost quite a bit when I changed the Thermostat? I am a little confused especially when the fan kicks on sucking coolant down and temp stabilizing. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks

the system must be pressurized or it will boil over at normal operating temperature. a pressurized system raises the boiling point of the coolant 30*. top off the coolant and install the rad cap. If it still overheats....make sure the heater core is not clogged.....if the heater core is blocked on this model, the car will overheat
