Default 2005 Cavalier radio issue

Hello, I have a 2005 Cavalier I just bought recently which had a crappy aftermarket radio that had some bastardized wiring, so I replaced it with the factory pigtail and a Delco CD player from a junkyard 2001 model which the dealer was able to program correctly, but it won't play CDs. It only shows "ERR" on the screen and ejects the CD. Is there anything I can do about this myself or did I just get a dud of a head unit? Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks!

Yeah, I tried a couple different CDs and the same thing. If the head unit is bad and I exchange it for another one, there's no possible way I can program it myself, is there?

Also, if not, can an aftermarket audio shop program it, or does it HAVE to be done at a GM dealer?

no...a factory unit will have to be unlocked by the dealer. a scan tool is required.... and "maybe" service programming..ie cloud based server with programming. Maybe someone can chime in on that. An audio shop may have a scan tool but they won't have access to do gm programming.
jbody.org is a cavalier dedicated website...someone there may know.

Okay, I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the advice!
